5 Yoga Postures to gently warm up the back and wake up the body

Hi everyone!

My very first video post!

How many of you feel like death the second you wake up? Let’s start our day right and gently prepare the body for the day ahead!

Here are 5 Yoga Postures that will get you out of bed feeling more flexible and happy to face the day ahead!

Supine Twist (Supta Matsyendrasana)

  1. Take deep breaths and keep your thoracic spine flat on the floor/ bed
  2. Draw you knees to you chest
  3. Engage your core and slowly bring the knees to the right side while turning the head to the left
  4. Keep shoulders away from the ears
  5. 5 deep breaths
  6. Switch sides

Benefits:

  1. Improves digestion
  2. Stretches out both sides of the torso and back
  3. Stretches out the sides of the thighs and glutes
  4. Stretches the chest and shoulders
  5. Improves flexibility in the spine

Happy Baby (Ananda Balasana)

  1. Grab both big toes/ soles of feet
  2. Open knees as wide as possible
  3. Keep lower back on the ground
  4. Keep shoulder away from the ears
  5. 5 deep breaths

Benefits:

  1. Stretches inner thighs and glutes
  2. Lengthens the spine
  3. Improves digestion

Fish Pose (Matsyasana)

  1. Place palms under the bum
  2. Prop yourself up on your elbows
  3. Open the chest and arch the back
  4. Allow the crown of the head to rest on the floor
  5. 5 deep breaths

Benefits:

  1. Stretches the chest
  2. Stretches the abdominal muscles
  3. Improves digestion
  4. Brings blood to the brain

Butterfly Pose (Badhakonasana)

  1. In a seated position, lift the ribs and engage the core
  2. Place soles of feet together
  3. Shoulders away from the ears
  4. Fold from the hips
  5. 5 deep breaths

Benefits:

  1. Lengthens the spine
  2. Stretches the inner thighs
  3. Stretches the hamstrings
  4. Stretches the back muscles

Seated torso rotation

  1. Sit in Butterfly Pose
  2. Rotate the torso 5 time to the right
  3. 5 deep breaths
  4. Switch

Benefits:

  1. Improves digestion
  2. Lengthens spine
  3. Stretches the sides of the torso
